Monarch Waystation at the Homestead

In 2018, the Homestead registered to be a monarch waystation. Monarch butterflies migrate from the United States and Canada to central Mexico each fall. They wait out the winter in Mexico and return north in the spring. Waystations are important because they provide resources necessary for monarchs. Without milkweeds during the spring and summer, monarch butterflies would not be able to produce successive generations.
